Ellie Hodgetts
I am a writer/director and film programmer based in Birmingham, UK, working across fiction and documentary. I am particularly motivated to make films centring human rights, LGBTQ+ and Women's experiences.
My films to date have highlighted the homophobic murder of Irishman Declan Flynn (Fairview Park) which received funding from the BFI, Violence against women and the #metoo movement (Home Safe, Voices), Queer protest in Manchester (We Are Here) & Freedom of Press in the horn of Africa (Erena...Our Eritrea).
I am currently in development of:
BARGE; a feature length film exploring Birmingham's 90's rave scene. Early Development funding awarded by BFI Network.
A short documentary centred around the craft of taxidermy, working alongside producer Alice Tomlinson.
A research led exhibition initiative exploring how women and LGBTQIA+ filmmakers connect with festivals, audiences and community spaces.
I'm currently available for freelance collaborations and am always happy to hear from filmmakers, producers and organisations. I offer story development, script feedback, screenplay and treatment notes, pitch deck and funding application feedback, festival strategy, and advice on film exhibition and audience development.
